And then it rained…

She had been crying on the phone for a while. She mustered enough words to say, ‘we shouldn’t meet anymore; it’ll help me move on’ and then hung up.

He was walking to his place after a movie, listening on his phone the songs that she had sung for him. After she hung up, the music started playing again. Next song.

Everything slowed to a crawl. He was walking the same path he had taken everyday for last 3 weeks. But everything seemed different. The trees weren’t as green as yesterday; the statue wasn’t as magnificent as day before; the flag didn’t flutter as proudly as moments ago.

Dil tenu de baithi, khabar hai aesse leyii,

karda hai beparvaiyaan…

ki devaa tennu, kasma koii,

yaad kadi na aiyaan…

And then it rained. He stopped. He looked up. He didn’t run for a shelter. He was just relieved that he could claim that his face was wet because it rained. Next song.

Main Jahan rahoon….main kahin bhi hoon….teri ya(aaa)ad sath hai…
